Declutter and get organized -Part 1
Have you heard about The famous Marie Kondo ? No ,Then let me introduce to the queen of Organizing and decluttering . Marie Kondo is a Japanese organizing consultant, author, and TV show host who gained international fame for her KonMari method of decluttering and organizing.
The KonMari method, introduced in her bestselling book "The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up," encourages people to declutter their homes by keeping only those items that "spark joy." Kondo advises organizing possessions by category rather than by room, and she suggests a specific order for decluttering: clothing, books, papers, komono (miscellaneous items), and sentimental items.
Marie Kondo's approach to decluttering has resonated with people around the world, leading to a global phenomenon. In addition to her books, she has a Netflix series titled "Tidying Up with Marie Kondo," where she helps individuals and families declutter and organize their living spaces.
We here in India when mention her name, people ask “kaun Marie?” lets keep jokes apart and lets imbibe her techniques while organizing our homes. Well we may not have the premium and quality products as it is available out of india but we do have some very sought able options available on amazon. what I like about amazon is buying and returns /refunds are so smooth.
"Tidying" and "organizing" are related concepts, but they refer to different aspects of managing and arranging one's belongings.
Tidying:
Definition: Tidying involves the process of eliminating clutter and keeping things in order. It often implies a thorough and intentional effort to declutter and create a clean and organized environment.
Focus: Tidying is more about the act of getting rid of unnecessary items, organizing what remains, and creating a visually appealing and harmonious space.
Methodology: This process may involve assessing each item, determining its value or joy-sparking factor (as per Marie Kondo's method), and making decisions about whether to keep or discard it.
Organizing:
Definition: Organizing refers to the systematic arrangement of items in a specific order to enhance efficiency and ease of use. It involves creating designated spaces for items and establishing systems to maintain order.
Focus: Organizing is more about arranging items in a logical and accessible manner. It aims to make it easy to find and use what you have, contributing to a sense of order and functionality.
Methodology: This process may include categorizing items, utilizing storage solutions, and implementing systems such as labeling or color-coding to maintain order.
As Kondo advises organizing possessions by category rather than by room, and she suggests a specific order for decluttering:
1)clothing
2) books
3)papers
4)komono (miscellaneous items), and
Lastly sentimental items.
“Life truly begins only after you have put your house in order.” – Marie Kondo
